These custom sized, handmade
paddles are constructed using a three-ply lamination method. We take a beautifully
grained cedar board and slice it in half. The halves are edge glued to provide
a wider board with a mirror image grain pattern called
"bookmatching". This becomes the Blade and Shaft Core (the center
ply).
The remaining two outer plys of
the lamination are the Shaft Spines, which are fabricated of select hardwood.
Holding the components together is epoxy resin...the perfect adhesive for a strong,
waterproof and flexible paddle!
The "beavertail" style
blade is approximately 8 inches wide, while the slightly elliptical shaft is
approximately 1-3/16 thick.
Adding superior strength and
flexibility to the paddle is one layer of 6-ounce fiberglass cloth, applied to
each face of the blade (past the juncture of the spine to the blade). To help
prevent splitting and chipping of the paddle we apply nylon cord (saturated
with epoxy resin) to the blade tip. The entire paddle is then shaped, smoothed
and sealed against water penetration with epoxy resin. Three coats of quality
marine varnish complete the finishing process and help prevent discoloration to
the paddle due to sunlight's UV rays.
This paddle could very well
last your lifetime!

Our "Red
Paddle" is made of select grade Western Red Cedar for the blade /
shaft core with shaft spines of select Cherry hardwood.

Our "White
Paddle" features Northern White Cedar for the blade / shaft core with
shaft spines of select Ash hardwood.
In either style, the finished
paddle's appearance is of many coats of varnish over the wood. The natural
beauty of the wood selected is allowed to shine through.
We can personalize your paddle
during construction by printing up to 24 characters / spaces (as shown
below in red) onto our logo decal at "no charge"! We include
the month and year of manufacture in the decal also. The color of the entire
decal is black. Enter what text you'd like in the "Special Box" on
the Order Form. Please print clearly.

We need to know the "grip span" of your hands for paddling. Please
give us this measurement by using one of the following methods:
When
done correctly, the object will be level, your arms will be bent at a Right
Angle (90 degrees) at the elbows and everything will look square...not leaning
to the left or right! Look in a mirror or have a friend help you align your
arms and object.
Mark
the object where the outer edge of your second hand lies on the object (this is
just outside your "little" finger or "pinkie"). Measure
from the end of the object (where your first hand was cupped over the end) to
the mark you've just located. Enter this measurement (in "inches")
in the box on the Order Form.
We will craft your paddle shaft
to this length. The overall length of the paddle can be found by adding
25-1/2 inches (our "Blade length") to the measurement above.
Note: Our standard Paddle "grip
span" is 40 inches, which makes the paddle 65-1/2 inches long overall. The
maximum "grip span" we will manufacture is 46-1/2 inches (72
inches total length).
The minimum grip is 26-1/2
inches (52 inches total length).
If you don't specify your
"grip span" it will be assumed that you are ordering our standard
span of 40 inches! Check your order form before mailing please!
